Royal ISD is excited to announce that Giselle Castorena has been named Assistant Principal for Royal Early Childhood Center. ECC Principal Katacha Miller stated, “I’m so happy to have Mrs. Castorena joining the Royal ECC family! She’s an amazing educator who has a heart for doing what’s best for all students. She is an asset to our team as we strive to build positive relationships with the families of the Brookshire/Pattison Community. I’m excited for what the future holds for our campus.”
Ms. Castorena is returning to Royal, this time as our ECC Assistant Principal. This will be the start of her third year as a Royal Falcon. When asked about her favorite quote, she chose a quote by Walt Disney: "We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” Her reason for becoming an educator is her belief that all children can learn and deserve the best opportunities to do so. In the upcoming months, she would like to expand on the positive school culture and climate for our students and staff and also to enhance and promote collaboration amongst our administration, teachers, parents, and students.
When asked about her background, she shared the following: “My husband and I are parents to four loving and creative children! In my tenure in education, I have worked as a Spanish Teacher, Instructional Coordinator, Asst. Principal, and Principal. This is my 24th year in education. This is technically my 3rd year at Royal since I was here from 2010-2012. I am happy to be returning to such a wonderful community! I graduated from Houston Baptist University with two degrees: one in Communications and the other in Spanish. My minor study in college was in Education. I graduated and then honed my teaching craft in the classroom teaching Spanish and summer school, using my Elementary Certification as a Bilingual Generalist Teacher. I was later promoted to Instructional Coordinator on my campus and continued to support teachers and students to create a positive school culture, which earned me a path to work in administration. I worked as an Assistant Principal and Principal for a total of seven years and returned to the classroom to focus on my family and rearing my children. I have three children currently in high school and one in middle school. Being that my children are more grown and independent, I felt that it was the time to transition back to administration. It has been a rewarding career journey and I am happy to complete it here at Royal ISD as the new Principal of the ECC! I look forward to working with you and your students!”
To achieve the district mission of "investing in our tomorrow", she stated that she is here to help to grow and nurture our young students to be the best versions of themselves and to become outstanding citizens. It is a privilege to have an opportunity to plant a seed of hope in our young students for what tomorrow holds.
When not working, she loves spending time with family, attending church, and traveling. Ms. Castorena and her family and I love the beach! She is excited to be a part of the Falcon family once more, and we are happy to welcome her back to Royal ISD!
