Royal ISD is excited to share two announcements about Class of 2020 graduate Benjamin Ybarra. During his time at Royal, Ben excelled on the and off the field, securing a full baseball scholarship from Prairie View A&M University. He is currently completing his junior year at PVAMU. #WeAreRoyal
Ben was named to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Second Team All-Conference. He is second on the team, with a .335 hitting average while scoring 23 runs on 58 hits and hitting in 40 players. He also carried a team-high .929 fielding average.
Ben will be playing in the 2023 Cactus Jack HBCU Classic with the PVAMU Baseball Team on Feb 17, 18, 19 at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros. The Cactus Jack HBCU Classic is set to make its debut at Minute Maid Park Friday, February 17 through Sunday, February 19, 2023. The Classic will be the first of its kind held in Houston since the Astros hosted the MLB Urban Invitational that exclusively featured Historically Black Colleges and Universities back in 2013.
