The Royal SkillsUSA Chapter competed on March 30th-April 1st, at the SkillsUSA State Competition at multiple locations around Corpus Christi, Texas. Royal came away with many awards, medals, and trophies! In all, a grand total of 26 students won awards at the State Competition in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The Royal Arts, Audio/Video Production Department competed in A/V contests including Advertising Design and Photography. This year we have the State Qualifier in Advertising Design: Gabriel Velasquez. Layla Thompson competed in the Photography Portrait Job Exhibit and earned a Very Good rating. Elizabeth Moreland competed in the Photography Technical Test and earned State Qualifier.
The Royal Cosmetology Department competed in multiple Cosmetology programs that included both Live Competition and Project Exhibit. The contest included Barbering, Day and Evening Job Exhibit, Fantasy Job Exhibit, Men's Classic Hair Cutting Job Exhibit, and Womens Color and Cut Job Exhibit. State winner for Barbering was Adalberto Tellez, 8th place.
Day and Evening Job Exhibit 1st place winners were Sandra Montalvo, Xitlaly Larios, Yoselyn Arriaga, and Daysy Cortez. Fantasy Job Exhibit 1st place winners were Dulce Hernandez; 2nd place winners were Jessica Calvillo and Peyton Fontenot. Womens Color and Cut 2nd place Winner was Zunaira Noman. Menโs Classic Haircut Job Exhibit 1st place winner was Adalberto Tellez.
Adalberto was Royal's first ever competitor in SkillsUSA Barbering!
The Royal Health Science Department competed in Health Science SkillsUSA contests. These contests are exhibitions of technical Health Science Skills. State Winners were 1st place Superior Perfect score Isaac Martinez, Danahe Alcanter, Daniel Hernandez, Rebeca Arvizo, Kyla Thomas, and Yessica Rodriguez.
The Royal Welding Department entered built projects into the job exhibit competition. The student-built project teams consisted of Julian Serrano and Abraham Torrez who built a 500-gallon BBQ pit smoker, earning them a Superior rating. Jesus Alvarado, Eric Nino, and Diego Martinez built an 1800โs black powder cannon replica, earning them an Excellent Rating.
The Royal Machining Department had four Job Exhibit entries.
- Best of Show, Miguel Hernandez - 11th grade machined a set of Top Spinners made of three different materials. (Aluminum, Mild Steel and Brass.)
- Superior Rating, Antonio Morales - 12th grade machined three different Dice sizes (ยฝ inch, 1 inch, and 2 inch).
- Superior Rating, Andrew Jurado - 12th grade machined a four-inch aluminum cube with three different inside bore diameters.
