A few weeks ago, the Royal High School Music Dept. Participated in the UIL Solo and Ensemble contest at Hempstead High School. Royal ISD sent 5 students to this event, all of whom did an outstanding job. Out of the five students that participated, four received Division 1 Superior Ratings and one received a Division 2 excellent rating. Out of the four students that received superior ratings, two will advance to the state solo and ensemble competition because they played their pieces from memory. All participants played class one pieces, which are the highest level of difficulty.
The two students who played from memory and advanced to the state competition are Gary S. Miller III and Alfredo Rios . Division 1 soloists also include Angeles Garcia and Colby Turner. The student who received a Division 2 rating is Jesus Martinez. These students represented Royal ISD very well in the competition. When you see them, please congratulate them for all of their hard work and effort.
