The Royal ISD Agricultural Science Department recently offered the Texas Hunter Safety Education Course to the youth in our local and surrounding communities. The goals of the hunter education course are to promote firearm and sporting arm safety, hunting safety, hunting ethics, compliance to hunting regulations, combat poaching, and to promote the wise use of our sustainable resources and hunting traditions. The benefits of hunter education are reduction of hunting accidents, reduction of hunting violations, enhancement of outdoor behaviors, and continuation of the hunting heritage.
The course was taught by Texas Parks and Wildlife Instructor Morgan Harbison, Jason Woods, and Craig Melton. The class consisted of 20 students, ages 9 to 13, who were eager to learn about the safety and guidelines of Texas Hunting Laws and Regulations. Classroom instruction, as well as hands-on training and actual simulations, followed by a written test brought the class much knowledge and experience of the Texas Hunter Safety program. Congratulations to our novice hunters.
