Thirteen students traveled to Corpus Christi for UIL Academics Regional this past weekend. After a strong season the students did an amazing job. Thank you again for your support of our UIL Academics students. Next stop, State!
Our Mathematics team came in 2nd place in the Region and our Journalism team came in 3rd place in the Region. We also left Corpus with 7 individual medals earned which gave us 2 State Alternates and 2 State Qualifiers.
Eleanor Recinos competed in Ready Writing. Leonardo Robles-Lara competed in Number Sense. Out of 45 competitors, Leo placed 13th and had a personal high score. Our Calculator Applications team placed 4th in the Region. Out of 42 competitors, Roberto Montalvo placed 7th and Vladimir Moreno became a State Alternate with a 4th place finish.
Katia Mendoza placed 6th in Copy Editing; while, Alexcia Garcia became a State Alternate with a 4th place finish in News Writing. Alexcia also competed in Feature Writing.
Our first State Qualifier came from Eleanor Recinos who placed 2nd in Editorial Writing and Alexcia became another State Alternate with her 4th place finish in Editorial. Our Mathematics team placed second with our next State Qualifier, Leonardo Robles-Lara, placing 2nd. Also of note was Vladimir Moreno who placed 15 out of 45 competitors.
Our last team to compete was Literary Criticism. With a 4th place team finish (11th across all Regional teams in the entire State of Texas), Vladimir Moreno became a State Alternate again with his 4th place finish. Within our 43 competitors, Isabell Bishop placed 10th.
Overall, the trip was a success. To have this honor alone is amazing. And, for our two State Qualifiers to be 1 of 12 students to qualify individually for State is outstanding.
