Royal Superintendent Rick Kershnerβs two biggest priorities are: 1.) What is best for our Falcon students; and 2.) What is best for Royal ISD. Since joining the team at Royal, Mr. Kershner has introduced a toolkit of programs to help accomplish his vision for the district. One of the tools he uses is the Student Advisory Council. Each campus nominates a team of students for the council, and Mr. Kershner has meetings with the groups throughout the year. His most recent luncheon was at Royal Elementary School, where we received excellent feedback and suggestions from the students.
At each luncheon, Mr. Kershner brings a list of questions he would like to ask the students, which include items such as:
- What do you like about your campus?
- What do we do well?
- What is one thing we could do better?
- What do you want to talk about next time?
- The most important of the questions: What do you want for lunch next time?
As always, the students provided great feedback and suggestions for the leadership team, including a commitment from one student to start a letter writing campaign to state elected officials to recommend better pay for teachers and school staff, incentive days as a reward for positive behavior, and peer tutoring.
As he does for all meetings, he starts off with βgood thingsβ to begin on a positive note and to learn more about the meeting attendees. He ends with a launch to give attendees a motivational thought to take with them as they go about their day.
If you see Superintendent Kershner around the community, please thank him for the tireless work he does to ensure success for all Falcon learners. He is a true servant leader and is a blessing and a treasure for our school district.
