When you put district track, State SkillsUSA, UIL Concert & Sightreading, and UIL Academics District all in one week, our students and coaches rise to the occasion. Many UIL Academics team members competed in multiple activities and were able to help bring home recognitions for our team.
Tuesday started the week off in Needville with our Literary Criticism, our first Computer Science competitor in years, and our L-D Debaters competing.
Thursday our writers were off to competition, many before heading to State SkillsUSA in Corpus and some off to run at district track before driving to Corpus. Students medaled in all five events of the day.
The stories of success are endless. From personal bests by science team members like freshman Jareli Cazares, a sixth-place finish in L-D Debate by junior Gabriel Velasquez, and first-time accounting competitor and placer in two events- senior Nancy Cruz.
In all, our 42 competitors had 16 members qualify for Regionals in a total of 22 competitions. Our journalism students compete individually but were able to, when combined, bring home the journalism team award for a third year in a row. This year our district team placed 3rd overall with 306 points.
The successes and growth of our team comes from the continued hard work of our students and also our coaches, including Dr. Enos Inniss, Mrs. Lisa Inniss, Mr. Robert Jones, Mr. Nicholas Mojaver, Mr. Johnathon Venable, Mrs. Veronica Webb, volunteer coach Ms. Laray Odum, and volunteer coach Mr. Junior McKay. Practices began in late September after we returned from the Student Activities Conference in Austin and continue on as we prepare for Regionals and beyond.
Congratulations to our entire District Team:
