Royal ISD is happy to announce that Mara Tran is the new Royal ISD Instructional Program Specialist. Please read on to learn more about Ms. Tran's background.
I was a math teacher at Lamar Consolidated High School from 2010 to 2015. I taught all the way from Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II to Pre-Calculus. I was the advisor for the National Honor Society in LCHS. My favorite moment there was attending graduation ceremony and shaking hands with all my students, knowing that they had worked hard to earn their high school diplomas.
From 2015 to 2018, I worked as a Math Instructional Coach in Katy ISD. My favorite memory there was co-presenting math workshops with my teachers at an annual KATY ISD summer conference in 2018.
On October 2018, I joined Royal Elementary School and became one of the Assistant Principals. I loved seeing our students beam with excitement when they started reading or doing simple addition. I loved supporting teachers and staff members. Their success was all our success!
After 2 and a half amazing years as an AP in the elementary, I was offered a great opportunity working as the District Instructional Program Specialist in January 2021. I'm honored to continue serving this great community in this capacity.
I'm married with two kids. My husband is my best friend and still makes me laugh after more than 2 decades. Our son is an electrical engineering major in the US Coast Guard Academy (Class of 2024, GO BEARS!!!!) and our daughter is a high school Sophomore (Class of 2023, GO SPARTANS!!!!). My family is crazy about basketball! We also have a rescue dog, Chester, whose life goal is to eat as much human food as possible!

1-2 goals you’d like to accomplish during your first year in your new role:
- Be a great support to the Director of Teaching and Learning.
- Learn everything I need to learn and ensure various instructional programs are in compliance.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working? Reading magazines, biking, eating and playing with my dog.
Any other information you’d like to share about yourself? I’m a conscientious consumer. I love tiny homes and dream that one day I will live in one. I’m a firm believer in intermittent fasting.
