RJH Theatre One Act Play Competition and Upcoming Performances

The RJH theatre program recently took their show β€œAntigone Now” to a competition hosted at Royal High School by Mr. Callies and select theatre art students.  This was their second competition of the season, both times performing β€œAntigone Now.”

The tech crew was led by 7th grade stage manager Emily Ramos with Yolanda Mancera (7) on makeup/sound and Aiden Jackson (6) on lights.

Creon: Frankie β€œMaui” Foller (8th)

Judge and Chorus leader: Brooklyn Rongey (Stem 6th)

Bailiff: Esteban Carranza (7)

Farmer: Angelyna β€œBirdie” Rodriguez (8)

Nurse: Julissa Rivera (6)

Street Rioter: Myrianna Jimenez (stem 6)

Guards: Ke’Anah Wilson (8) and Nevaeh Houston (8)

The students were marked superior and excellent on all counts of technical theatre and acting on stage during their performance.

Individual awards were also given for tech and acting as with all OAP competitions.

6th grader Aiden Jackson won AllStar Tech.

Julissa Rivera (6th), Esteban Carranza (7th), and Alejandro Rodriguez (8th) all won Honorable Mention All Star Cast for their roles as nurse, bailiff, and street vendor. Esteban won the award, though he never spoke a word in the play.

For the second time, Frankie Foller (8th) and Melina Mendonca (8th) won AllStar Cast for their roles as Creon and Ismene, along with STEM 6th grader Brooklyn Rongey for her role of the Judge and chorus leader.

Each competition, two students out of all the schools are selected for Best Performer overall. Morgan Alegria (8th) won one of these two prestigious awards for her performance of Antigone.

Auditions for our last competition of the season, as well as our end of the year performance will occur Monday afterschool at the junior high. All 6-8 grade students, RJH or Stem, virtual or face to face are welcome to audition. RJH will be performing β€œThe Hope and Heartache Diner” by Lindsey Price.
